Livia Moraes Florezi’s Fazenda São José da Pedra Grande is near the city of Campestre in Sul de Minas, the heart of Brazilian Coffee production.
This lot is a Yellow Bourbon variety which has been cultivated in Brazil for more than 90 years, and recently has garnered accolades for its sweetness and complexity, though it’s challenging for farmers due to it’s susceptibility to coffee leaf rust and relatively low yields. However under careful cultivation and intentional processing, it produces an exceptional cup.
The farm is 664 hectares, with 400 hectares planted in coffee and 135 hectares of preserved natural forest. Livia and her family have installed drip irrigation to better preserve the environment by targeting nutrients and water and minimizing water loss to runoff and evaporation. This also helps to ensure high average production. They employ 36 highly trained staff who continue to take technical courses in sustainability and coffee production.
